Fully Engaged in God’s Purposes to Love and Reach our World!

We’re on a journey. Unlike wandering, journeying always involves a destination. Visions define destinations.

Vision is a mental picture—full of color and motion— of where we hope to be in the future. It pictures our destination and so inspires passion for our journey together.

Leaders live on vision. Moses had the Promised Land. Paul had Rome and points west. John Kennedy had the moon. Martin Luther King had a dream. God’s vision is the church—a full-functioning community of faith.

We need vision because we haven’t arrived, and we need to keep going. We’re eager to step out, for the vision propels us.

The vision of Faith is simple. We are:

Fully engaged In God’s purposes to love and reach our world.

Fully Engaged . . .

Full engagement is like a transmission that’s in gear. The opposite is an idling transmission. If we’re fully engaged, we’re prepared for what’s next. Our energies and resources are poised. The engine is humming, and its connected to the wheels.

In God’s (Five) Purposes . . .

As humans, we want to live purposefully. We hope our lives will amount to something; we hope they’ll matter. God put this desire in us, for he wants our lives to count for something. So he invites us to fulfill his Five Purposes for our lives.

God intends that we live out these purposes both as a church and also as individual Christ-followers. When we begin to fulfill these purposes, we live the life that God created us for.

Worship—honor God in all things

Worship starts when we gather on the weekend to celebrate God’s splendor. Worship brings joy to God and to us. It’s focused on God, and culturally relevant. It’s personally meaningful, and not merely entertaining. Worship continues all week, for a life lived with excellence honors God.

Community—build spiritual friendships

Community is experiencing deep, honest friendship with others. When we share common life (like a family), we live in community. Christian community brings us together as followers of Christ. In our common life, we are loved, supported, challenged, and prayed for. Transformative life change happens in community.

Service—help in Jesus’ name

Service is giving to others with no strings attached. It conveys our desire that others experience true hospitality. Everyone, not just pastors, serves. Service uses our gifts, shapes our own hearts, and draws others to Jesus. Most of all it pleases God.

Mission—share the Good News

Mission is sharing the message about salvation in Christ. All who follow Christ have a happy duty: participate in mission. The easiest way to do this? “Invest and Invite”—build great relationships and then invite family and friends to church.

Apprenticeship—grow in character and love

Apprenticeship grows Christian maturity. Growth includes, but goes beyond, head knowledge. It yields deeper trust, biblical values, emotional maturity, selfless living, and investment in God’s Kingdom.

To Love and Reach . . .

Loving the world equals service. Before we share a verbal witness about the gospel, we freely give whatever God gave us and what others need—wisdom, time, skills, or possessions.

Reaching the world equals mission. After (or as) we serve, we tell others about the Gospel of Jesus. This is an essential calling in every one of our lives.

Our World!

God calls us to know and love him so much that we can’t wait to introduce our friends and families to him. We are Christ’s face to our world—to anyone we know or meet. Mission begins at our front doorstep and continues to the ends of the earth. God longs to reach lost people anywhere. He’s active in that. Our joyful calling is to join him in the most vital thing he does.
