BAPTISMS
Believer’s Baptism
The earliest church baptized people who personally responded in faith to God by saying “Yes!” to Christ as Leader and Forgiver. Some churches follow this practice and baptize only those who have already trusted in Christ (believer’s baptism). Since believer’s baptism requires that someone personally decided to say “Yes!” to Jesus, it requires that a person be at least a mature child.
For those baptized as believers, the ritual looks back in faith to the moment when the believer decided once-and-for-all to follow Christ.
Stepping Stones class (children) or a pastoral conference (students and adults) are required to participate. Stepping Stones is a one-day class offered to students in grades 2-5. It is an opportunity for kids to learn in-depth about faith issues and to prepare for involvement in communion and believers’ baptism. Some of the topics covered are salvation, what it means to be a Christian, and how to tell my friends about Jesus. To inquire information about Stepping Stones, please contact Erica Schaaf or call 952.890.3110 ext 16.. For information about Believer's Baptism please contact Pat Heimkes or call 952.890.0602.

Infant Baptism/Dedication
Second generation Christians baptized their infants as a sign that (as members of Christian families) these infants belonged to a Christian community. They patterned baptism after OT circumcision—taking it as a sign that a child is a member of the community (see Colossians 2:11-12).
For those baptized as infants during the first year of life, the ceremony looks forward in hope to the day when they will choose to follow Christ. But this is crucial: they must later personally decide to follow Jesus by saying “Yes!” to him.
At Faith, we practice both believer’s and infant baptism. We baptize infants at the same time as we dedicate infants. Infant baptism means that parents and church join together, promising to raise the child to receive Jesus as Leader and Forgiver.
Parents are required to attend class for parents who wish to have a child baptized or dedicated. The baptism/dedication class is held periodically throughout the year.
